The Medusa talisman is a hand-colored print from a 1989 book. It is a reproduction of one of the Gnostic Gems from
King’s 'The Gnostics and their Remains, Ancient and Mediaeval' (1864).
The Ouroboros is hand-drawn on the matte. The English inside the Ouroboros is hand-written and is a translation of the Greek which is found in the print.
Medusa, originally beautiful, was punished by Athena for performing a sex act with the God Poseidon in Athena's temple. She was turned into a hideous monster with snakes for hair who turned anyone who looked at her into stone. After she was beheaded by Perseus, Athena placed her head on her shield, called the Aegis. Medusa's hideous image with the snake-hair was widely used as a talisman for warding off evil throughout antiquity.
The Ouroboros, literally, the Tale-eater, goes right back to Egypt and beyond. The image of a serpent or dragon eating its own tail is generally considered to represent Eternity.
The English in the Ourboros is a translation of the Greek around the talisman itself.
